Frances Ryan The Guardian It is horrific. Frances, may I ask for your help? I am disabled and standing for Westminster. I'd like to get in contact with other disabled candidates so we can stand together against this ableist government and give a voice to those who aren't being heard. Could you publicise?

Housebound people told to get a job. Benefit sanctions increased. Mandatory work placements. The Tories have launched a new assault on benefit claimants - and are doing it all for show.

The Telegraph’s tweet has now been viewed over a million times. My interview with Angela Rayner 🌹 for British Vogue talks in detail about the sexist classism female working class MPs are subjected to. Thank you to the Telegraph for making the point so perfectly!

I always wonder if this sort of thinking is naivety or wilful ignorance. As if employers are lining up to hire people whose mental health condition is so severe they can’t leave the house or have social contact.

One reason “get to work” policies are so cruel for disabled people is that losing their career was devastating. Sitting on the sofa is nice for a weekend but less so if you’re doing it for thirty years and in pain. Being told you “don’t want it enough” is psychologically brutal.

Days like today remind you how vital representation can be - and how lacking the British media’s is. People with experience of benefits or disability should be leading the commentary. We do not need to see one more pundit from private school give their thoughts on the changes.

It is more than possible to “make work way” without forcing people on benefits to live in penury. No cleaner can pay the rent because a cancer patient has to skip meals. The Tories pretend otherwise because it’s in their interests to stoke division and fear.
