Dru So I actually loved PBL as did most of my classmates

But my unI were VERY particular with how it was done

Each group was supervised by a consultant or senior registrar and we did 7-8 hours per week
Very strict method
There are wrong answers
Had to be clinical AND science

Dru My med school started experimenting with PBL back in (coughs!).

It was blown out of the water by the systematic teaching of Pathology, which culminated in actual patient cases (CBL).

Beautiful demonstration that clinical reasoning is dependent on solid knowledge.

One of my mentors says 'anyone can cut, but only a few can be surgeons'.

What he meant is that surgery isn't just the operation. It is all ten RACS competencies.

Gets 'pissy' because of their own poor teamwork and leadership? Not a surgeon, just a cutter. 🤨

I applied for pre-allocation with UKFPO hoping it would mean I could work in one of the three hospitals within commutable distance of where I live and my son could stay in his nursery, but today I’ve been given a placeholder job

Dr Linda Dykes @[email protected] Not the PAs' fault? They accepted the certificates and posed for a publicity photo.

Being too nice got us into this mess in the first place.

Dr Linda Dykes @[email protected] I find employee of the month a really difficult concept. On our ward the nurses get it as do the ANPs. I have never seen a doctor getting staff member of the month. It is another nail in the 'you don't matter' coffin.

Dr Linda Dykes @[email protected] The worst thing is, they can read the room. They just don’t care how doctors are feeling.

Also, if anyone that is not a doctor is covering for a doctor during strike action, they are undermining them

Top trolling of junior doctors by whatever Trust is responsible for this (not the PAs’ fault, so I’ve obscured their faces). Can they not read the bloody room? All evidence points to majority disquiet amongst doctors re the & having a dig a doctors’ strikes is not cool

🔴 Move towards an independent Faculty of PAs

Until recently FPARCP were defacto independent. Now RCP grasps the situation, and putting limits in place we're letting them go?

I have my reservations about how good an idea this is...

It is genuinely disgraceful that a *trainee* ACP out earns an FY2 doctor by nearly £6500.

I don’t for a second think ACPs or tACPs are overpaid for what they do & I’ve been lucky to work with some brilliant ACPs.

But this comparison shows just how crap doctors pay has become.

Doing a project on - has anyone currently got it or have family members any age with it? Grateful if you could connect. My DMs are open. Also any pointers to experts or specialists in this area (vaccines, public health, clinical) would be amazing.

Dr Rachel Clarke And then imagine she's sent to a city with no affordable or available accommodation....

So she has to rent a birth on a barge and pay to park at the hospital....

They're sleeping in caravans in Bristol...

Dr Rachel Clarke She is likely to be technically homeless for a while, too. I say this again: anyone with FY in South or central London is welcome to a free room in my house for a few weeks whilst they wait for first pay and find a flat. Our daughter is a doctor so we understand. And have room.

Imagine starting out on £15/hour with £100k of student debt - while not even knowing what part of the UK you'll be sent to in 3 months' time.

What a disgraceful way to treat our junior doctors.

How dare the government permit this?
