Yet another school year is done. Can your child read age/grade/ability appropriate material? Statistically, no. Take a moment to gauge your child’s reading, writing and spelling. If you’re pleased, awesome! If you’re horrified let’s make a plan to correct the problem. #Nephew .

Today, my first and favorite student of all time graduated with a bachelors degree in civil engineering. My one and only child. My son and the love of my life. I am beyond proud of him.

Let me tell you what. David is an absolute delight! He is such an eager and proud learner! He loves being successful, and I am here for it! The presence of a disability does not mean a student cannot learn. All students can learn when their social and academic needs are met.

While Lukas is not ready to blend sounds just yet, I still introduced the concept and I model it for him. Of course he found a different use for the tiles, lol. #4Yearsold .

Check out Lukas as he works on the S. This letter has been a challenge for him, which is not unusual. The highlighter is a great tool because you can easily see how well he sticks to the lines. No rush, we will take as long as it takes.

I just sat in an IEP meeting where there was no administrator, no gen ed T, no diag no nothing except for a sped T a translator and maybe 1 other person. I shut that ish down promptly. That was the most egregious show of disrespect to a fam I’ve ever seen in edu. Unconscionable.

My David has done great with second grade sight and high frequency words! He requires accommodations with instructions and pace, and subsequently, he does very well academically. I wonder where he would be if his needs were met in his primary learning environment. 🤔

Another PJ learning session! He has a hard time keeping up in his kindergarten class, but he can easily do grade one work at his pace. All students can learn when their social and academic needs are met.

At just 4 years old, Lukas is off to a great start! It’s so hard to reverse ineffective learning habits that have taken root. Starting off right will help him win in school and life.
