New Seasonal Outlook by NOAA’s NWS Climate Prediction Center
Drought is expected to improve, but mostly remain, in the Central/Southern Plains and South/Southeast. Drought develops in the eastern Northwest/N. Rockies. HI and the USVI too.
Otherwise, drought persists.

Had enough of the cold? You'll like next week's outlook. Warmer than normal temps are favored for the entire Lower 48, per NOAA’s NWS Climate Prediction Center.
Most of the Lower 48 looks wet too, especially the Southern US. Drier for the N. Plains and a bit of CA.

#DroughtMonitor 1/16: A wet (and frigid) week led to big improvements in almost every state east of the Plains.
Mixed for the West, which is finally seeing good snow but was extremely dry prior.

Inches of rain and feet of snow for the West Coast. Parts of the Rockies get much needed snow. Inches of rain for E. TX too.
In a big change of pace, relatively dry for most of the rest of the Lower 48.

The Colorado River provides water to over 40M people in the Southwest. In an avg year, over 50% of this water comes from melting snow in western CO.
ColoClimateCenter researchers found ways to improve forecasts of this critical water supply.

Next week looks cold (really frigid) and dry for much of the Lower 48, according to NOAA’s NWS Climate Prediction Center.
One exception includes CA, where a large part leans warm and wet. Also potential for relatively wet weather in the Northwest, N. Rockies, FL, and S. TX.

#DroughtMonitor 1/9: The extreme weather from the last few days improved drought in the South and East. The Plains had a wet week too.
Extremely low snowpack in the West led to degradations in most states.
