Theres not much you can do with angioedema patients except “wait it out”. Airway monitoring comes first, intubate early, usually admit to ICU if symptoms progress in any way in the ED

Functional asplenia = complete loss of splenic function 2/2 medical conditions & occurs most frequently w sickle cell anemia. There's 3 bacteria to worry about (those w capsules): S pneumo, H flu type b, & Neisseria meningitidis. Vaccinations mitigate but don't eliminate the risk

Benzos & acetazolamide can be used together to treat mild acute mountain sickness. For severe sickness immediately descend, give acetazolamide + dexamethasone, & consider hyperbaric therapy.

DPL facts for
DPL is highly sensitive for intraabdominal bleed (more sensitive than FAST) but has false positives. In contrast, FAST has higher specificity. It may seem obvious but if DPL is done first, FAST can't be done after due to residual fluid flow into the abdomen

Toco is necessary for a period of 4 to 6 hours for ANY type of pregnant trauma but if the patient is symptomatic or having contractions, then a 24 hour observation period is preferred
