John Sayles's American masterpiece CITY OF HOPE comes out on Blu-ray today. You should watch it. Buy it, rent it, stream it, steal it, whatever. (Don't steal it.)

when I was like 12 I took a comics-making class at the local JCC with a bunch of adults. didn’t know then that the cool instructor was an underground comix pioneer, feminist icon & Lady of the Canyon. RIP Trina Robbins thank you for teaching me to use zipatone, or trying to

It can't be overstated how good X-Men 97 is.
What could easily pass as a nostalgia-bait kids cartoon is actually one of the best written, best animated pieces of modern media.

X-men 97 shows just how much potential there is in comics and on the screen. There is no superhero fatigue. We just need great stories.

Loving . And yeah, episode 5 is so guttingly good. This show is quickly becoming one of the best expressions of the X-Men ever.

All these reviews decrying the twist in “Sugar” while not spoiling it but also coyly hinting at it have activated my theorizing brain, so now I need to watch it because I’ll never rest until I learn if I’m right or wrong. Or someone can just tell me. It’s aliens, isn’t it?

Roger Ebert left us 11 years ago today. In this piece, I write about his top 10 lists, and what some of the more surprising selections said about his philosophies of moviegoing and criticism. rogerebert.com/mzs/a-man-goes…

Five Things I’m Enjoying Right Now:

1. Cowboy Carter
2. X-Men ‘97
3. Rewatching The Prisoner
4. Discovering (much too late) Resident Alien
5. Watching my daughter get into Cormac McCarthy and listening to her Blood Meridian commentary.

I would really love to read a Beyoncé interview where she talks about her musical process in detail. We’re taking a lot about the “why” but I really want to know the “how,” from her. She clearly is a master in the studio, swish she would share the wisdom

We've lost one of the original Milestone Comics family. MARK BRIGHT has passed away. He was a friend, and one of the most generous people I've ever met. A comic book Mark drew changed the direction of my life. I'm gutted. I know his spirit will find peace. bleedingcool.com/comics/md-brig…
