This week I visited Tunbridge Wells.

Thanks to the local Lib Dem team who pushed through the gridlock, this wasted brownfield site, ignored since 1999, is set to become a thriving retirement community right in the heart of this beautiful town.

Today, six months on, I am thinking of all those Israelis and Palestinians who have had their lives turned upside down by this dreadful conflict.

For years Liberal Democrats have called for far tougher control of arms exports, so that British arms are not being used in conflicts such as the devastating one in Gaza.

The UK Government must take swift action to suspend arms exports to Israel.

They braved the horrors of war to get food to starving families. Their deaths are horrifying and heartbreaking.

This violence has to stop. Now. We need an immediate bilateral ceasefire – a real ceasefire that finally sets us on the path to a lasting peace.
