All this & what's one of the biggest threats to rule of law & human rights in UK right now?

This Government's own Rwanda bill 🤷‍♀️ which:
- attacks role of judiciary
- severely limits access to justice
- likely breaches international law
- threatens universality of human rights

We’re becoming desensitised to these tragedies. Where once they were headline news the risk is they become ‘priced in’ to our expectations for border management. We must burn with anger for every death and the total political failure it represents. theguardian.com/world/2024/feb…

The thing is, it's not unthinkable. It happened

Police abuses & violence against women. It happens

If it was thought of - as it should have been - maybe there would have been the right checks & processes.

Perhaps the better question is, did policing find it unbelievable?

There's so much to read & digest in the ICIBI reports finally published today

But I can't get this out of my head - it's about unaccompanied children in hotels: 'a fundamental gap still exists in terms of defining who is ultimately responsible for the children'

Unacceptable.

The UK Parliament Human Rights Committee finds that:
1⃣ the #RwandaBill doesn't comply with our human rights obligations.
2⃣ the courts are best placed to resolve the factual question of whether Rwanda is safe.
3⃣the #RwandaBill threatens the fundamental principle that human rights are universal. 🧵
