I have always been taught that Judaism so values the sanctity of human life that one can break the rules of the Torah to save a life. This is known as “pikuach nefesh.” Seems to me that those who attended this funeral are breaking both the spirit and the letter of the law.

On January 6, 2021, I felt the way I felt on September 11, 2001, with the same outraged sorrow at the targeting of the American idea. As September 11 became 9/11, so has January 6 become, in my mind and heart, 1/6.

The Pentagon has denied the request to deploy the National Guard to the Capitol to deal with the coup/riot that Trump incited.

But this was the scene for BLM protests this summer.

What many are saying is true:

If this were Black Lives Matter storming the Capitol, tanks would have been in the city by now.

The response tells the story of our nation’s racist history and present.

How can we stop it from being the future?

What is happening in our Capitol building today is horrifying, in more ways than one. I can't help but compare it to the peaceful protests over the summer that invariably ended in tear gas and bullets. We have a white supremacy problem, folks. And we need to admit it.

As a parent of a child with Down Syndrome, and as someone who lives in South Carolina, this comment by Rep. Jim Jordan is not only inappropriate, it is offensive.

Well, this is a heart-breaking read.

'She reclaimed her phone to look up the title: Død Over Downs (“Death to Down Syndrome”). When Karl Emil read over her shoulder, his face crumpled. He curled into the corner and refused to look at us.' theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

This week's Gospel text: As you did it to the least of these, you did it to me.

Jesus is pretty clear that we're responsible for one another's well-being.

Tonight.

Tonight I put lights on our Christmas tree. I know. I know it's too early.

But I NEED CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN MY LIFE NOW
