“And perhaps that lies at the root of being a committed long-term single woman. I love many things, but I love and value myself more… Best of all, I have friends; they are the glue that holds my world together” Great article! theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2…

I said at the time there was zero understanding of what working parents - especially mothers - were going through.

Schools closed. Nurseries closed. Childcare was illegal. Women didn’t just magically stop having jobs. Maybe the government could have remembered that kids existed?

“These kids mattered”. I absolutely love Tish Murtha’s photos. They show the grim everyday reality for so many people living in north east England in the 80s but always full of love and respect for the people in her images. theguardian.com/artanddesign/g…

I only know of one person from my childhood in the north east who went on to work for radio, and zero who work in film or TV. Black hole indeed.

This looks brilliant. About time women’s recollections & experiences of the Miners’ Strikes are given the recognition they deserve. I remember my Dad buying NUM merchandise from women running a fundraising stall near Ashington when I was a little girl. Can’t wait to get a copy!
