Lovely, thoughtful, wise and wry piece - and the writing wisdom reported here, “I have only one piece of advice for you. Have a vision and cleave to it,” is about the single best example of that genre I've heard. Leave everything else to everyone else.

Quite apart from how deeply infantilising this is to people who can get married, have kids, join the armed services, take on thousands in student debt, work as lawyers, doctors, teachers, but still not understand their own gender identity: Shamima Begum isn't yet 25 years old.
