Columbia University University may have devolved into a fascist police state, but it cannot arrest our joy. It cannot arrest our love. Most of all, it cannot arrest our commitment to Palestinian liberation.

Columbia administration is issuing new waves of suspensions to anyone that attempts to pick up their confiscated belongings. Many students including myself have laptops, medication, devices, and much more among these belongings. This is getting cartoonishly evil.

I would hope that Columbia Faculty see their admin arresting their own students for peaceful protest as a red line. These students are in our care. Our primary responsibility as academics is to nurture their minds and protect them from oppression. Faculty must walk out now.

This 'absence of major war' notion misses quite a few things that seem important - a set of institutions (UN and its numerous bodies), understandings (yes, Yalta), agreements (US-Soviet arms control, Helsinki). I'd suggest these played a much bigger role than nuclear weapons.
