is the new record holder in our Milky Way with its 33 solar masses. Most black holes with stellar origin have a mass of about 10 solar masses. The mass of this new Gaia is pinned down with unparalleled accuracy, putting it firmly in the 30 solar mass range!

State-of-the-art (for the time!) 1962 map of Mars, based on observations by Lowell Observatory’s Earl Slipher & Percival Lowell, & UT Austin’s Gerard de Vaucoleurs - this was the map available informing the first Mars flyby by NASA JPL’s Mariner 4 in 1965.

Reminds me of simulations of the interstellar medium - converging flows of gas producing molecular clouds and gravity ->protostars, followed by expulsion of the gas as the stars ‘turn on’, due to outflows, expanding ionized gas (H II regions) and stellar winds from massive stars.

Should the probability that an Earth-like planet *shouldn't/can't/doesn't* exist in a certain orbital radius/size (due to being dynamically excluded) range be... 'eta_Dearth'?
