He would have been 87, today, but, sadly, passed away in 1993.

Born on this day in 1937, Roy Vernon. Blackburn Rovers & Everton had this brilliant forward at his best before he moved to Stoke City FC &, finally, Gt. Harwood. 32 appearances for FA WALES / Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 - including at the 1958 World Cup. David France & I wrote about him:

Back in 1987 Chelsea v EFC was played on a muddy pitch at a very different looking Stamford Bridge (cars parked near the touchline, uncovered away section etc.). Look out for Alan Harper’s screamer at 9 mins in & a bizarre refereeing decision at 12m35s.

Born on 11 April 1914, Albert Geldard.
The speedy right winger won the FA Cup with EFC in 1933. His memoir was written with Dr John Rowlands of Everton FC Heritage Society . More on Albert, here:

Johnny Holt, the brilliant & cunning centre-half, known as Everton’s “Little Devil”, was born on this day in 1865. A league champion & England international. Later at Reading FC & ran a mineral water business.
