There is no agenda to replace doctors with physician associates.

The UKMLA is the final assessment of a UK medical degree. You cannot sit it unless you’re studying a medicine at a university which is on the list of awarding bodies.
If a PA wished to become a doctor they would need to complete a medical degree.

Just had a quick browse of NHS jobs

Only able to find a dozen or so PA posts

Without a pause in uni applications we are going to have hundreds of PAs graduating with zero jobs

Absolutely terrible workforce planning

St George’s showing its hand.

They want to use PAs to the very edge of what’s legally defensible, regardless of risk to patients or any national ‘guidance’.

This shows that employers cannot be trusted to determine a genuinely safe scope for PAs.

They will need to be forced to.

I'm always in awe of any Dr talking about the issues of PAs openly under their own name, particularly younger Drs

The target you put on your own back for patient safety is hugely commendable

The “Placeholder” F1s-to-be will be so stressed by this ludicrous situation, but there’s something practical that as consultants we can do to help: we can offer up our spare rooms for a few weeks to give our newest colleagues a safety net for accommodation and a warm welcome.
