A great days birding Fair Isle Bird Obs with Red-Flanked Bluetail, Hawfinch, Twite, Snow bunting, Brambling all being seen. Census serenaded by drumming Snipe and displaying Lapwing. Goldcrests and Robins on the cliffs. Absolute magic :) BirdGuides
There's nothing like contextual rarity to make you properly appreciate a species, and with roughly six times as many records of Lanceolated Warbler as there are of Blue Tit Fair Isle Bird Obs, the appearance of this intrepid individual was very exciting!
A returning Blue Fulmar Fair Isle Bird Obs today - ringed last year when it held a cliff ledge on the isle, but failed to attract a mate.
Good to see it back - hopefully it has better luck this time!
All of us at the Fair Isle Bird Observatory Trust congratulate Roy Dennis, our Honorary President, on being awarded an OBE for services to wildlife. Roy was Assistant Warden here in 1959, Warden in 1964-70 and visited most recently in September 2023. Roy Dennis Foundation

Quite the arrival of 'Northern' Bullfinch into the Northern Isles today. At least four were Fair Isle Bird Obs, including these two dapper males in Boini Mire
Finally got to see one of my most-wanted lifers Fair Isle Bird Obs today, with this Pallas’s Warbler amongst the Goldcrests at Setter - you couldn’t fit more stripes onto it!
A long-awaited lifer today in the form of this stunning Pallas's Warbler Fair Isle Bird Obs - what an absolute jewel of a bird!
Phenomenal views of Bewick's Swan Fair Isle Bird Obs yesterday. Having had a few Whoopers in previous days, this was a chance to see the differences in structure and bill pattern. A super smart bird!
