C4 News FactCheck understands that it was ten days after that date before the first new centre was opened - and 21 days before four had been added.

Twitter Web App : This is likely to be the biggest study of its kind in the UK, and it adds to a growing evidence base about the complex relationship between ethnicity and health outcomes in this pandemic. See our recent C4 News FactCheck for more: channel4.com/news/factcheck…

Twitter Web App : There has been speculation that some BAME people may be reluctant or slow to access healthcare. But this study found no differences between ethnic groups "in the time from symptom onset to hospital admission, nor in illness severity at admission".

Twitter Web App : We've also seen evidence from other studies that South Asian people may be more likely to do jobs that put them at risk of catching Covid-19 through interaction with the public. ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulati…

Twitter Web App : The scientists who did the study say socioeconomic factors, like increased deprivation, might play a role. There could also be a biological (genetic) explanation.

Twitter Web App : About a fifth of the increased risk for South Asians was explained by higher rates of diabetes (types 1 and 2). But most of the added risk remains unexplained.

Twitter Web App : South Asians in hospital with COVID-19 were 20 per cent more likely to die than Whites after adjusting for age, sex and where people lived. Other ethnic minorities were not at significantly greater risk of dying.

Twitter Web App : There are two questions: are BAME people more likely to catch the coronavirus in the first place? Are they more likely to die once they have caught it? The new ISARIC 4C preprint (not yet peer-reviewed) addresses the second question.

Twitter Web App : A massive new study of 35,000 Covid-19 hospital patients aims to shed light on why disproportionate numbers of people from ethnic minorities are dying from the disease. media.tghn.org/articles/The_L…
