Over the years I've observed that it takes longer than expected to sell a better mousetrap.  You actually must have people out there selling against the status quo because the easy thing for potential customers is to do nothing.  Innovators often underestimate the role of sales.

Changes are painful and resisted. “Good enough today” can be the enemy of something new tomorrow. To get attention, we often must be >10X better as 10% better doesn’t matter very much. If better data doesn’t really influence a decision, then it is not better.
