The extreme wet weather of the last 6 months is having a massive impact on this farm. Spring drilling is weeks behind now with remaining fields still saturated, and conditions for outdoor lambing sheep are diabolical - the business of food production currently feels very hard!

Day 1 of pre-CSC (Contemporary scholars conference)
Our scholars had a great meeting with Robbie Moore MP and NSch Henry Alexander at 10 downing street followed by tour to the Parliament.

🐄 🌾 Another great start to week in Westminster - hosting two incredible groups - the 2024 Nuffield Farming Scholars & our mighty Future Farmers from God’s county of Yorkshire.

Later in the day, we will also be having a special debate on farming in the UK House of Commons

We will increasingly have to change how we farm and manage land to adapt to climate change - in the dark blue here.

Even with well functioning soils, when the field drains are below the level of the water in the ditches and dykes which are brim full, water in fields can’t get away - it’s just a waiting game 🥴
