OTD: On March 25th, 1776, the Continental Congress authorized the first congressional gold medal to George Washington for his victory at the Battle of Boston. Specifically, the Continental Congress awarded him the medal for his 'wise and spirted conduct'.

When New York City was chosen as the short-term capital, the Government House was built in hopes it would be the Presidential Mansion for George Washington. But, the capital moved. As a result, the Government House was used by New York State and eventually became a custom house.

OTD: On March 4th, 1789, Congress convened for the first time at Federal Hall. Unfortunately, only 22 of the 81 members could make it to Federal Hall. As a result, Congress had to wait for more members to come before they could start conducting business.
