I really think there’s a test for discrimination here - this v often happens to women. And there is no magic banding where flexibility exists or doesn’t. No band is inherently more or less flexible. If you want to retain skilled staff, flexibility is a requirement

The NHS has a workforce that’s 77% women, in a society where women shoulder the burden of childcare (and with a gender pay gap that means it is often - not always - Β£ advantageous for mothers to stop work rather than fathers) - this is a real and present issue for us.

If you give time off for staff to attend their own childrens' events (assemblies etc), then make sure there's an equal offer made clear to those who don't have kids, or to those who have kids who have left home
