Every time I have our Spanish Mass, there’s a little boy who comes forward in the Communion line, holds out his hand, and says, “I want some.” He’s maybe 3, so he’s obviously not yet ready, but what he lacks in understanding, he makes up for in sincerity. Adoro te devote!

Please say a prayer for my friend Fr Harkins this All Souls Day, and for all who miss him. Please pray in a special way for all who have taken their own lives.

Until about 3 weeks ago, I had planned to depart for the Holy Land this evening with about 35 pilgrims. Please continue to pray for a swift end to the conflict and especially for all the innocents helplessly caught in the violence.

Altar server training & luncheon, then confessions, Mass, questions from a nice college student, and finally a baptism. A good day in the vineyard.

I had Mass with our local Missionaries of Charity this morning, as I often do, and they had not heard about the violence in Israel and Palestine. They reminded me that there are MC sisters in Gaza, and Nablus as well. Please pray for their safety! And, indeed, for all there.

Friends, in your charity, please say a prayer for the health of Fr. Stephen Schultz who suffered a stroke over the weekend and is in precarious health. Saint Francis, Saint Faustina, pray for us!

Not on Twitter as much anymore, but popping in to say: friends, as the synod begins, let’s join together in fervent prayer. Whatever our anticipations, concerns, hopes, fears, the Lord sees & hears us. He knows what must be done. Lord, renew your church! St. Francis, pray for us.

Beware those Catholic Twitter accounts that get up on a Sunday morning and let loose with yet more Twitter fighting. Something ain’t right with that on the Lord’s Day. It’s a tell. Worship, rest, and love, my friends. Worship, rest, and love.

I preached a spirituality weekend for a group of Benedictine nuns in our diocese. They were kindly attentive and very generously hospitable. Here are a few pictures of their grounds and their collection of relics, posted with permission.

Happy Feast of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta! I have the privilege of offering Mass several days a week for the Missionaries of Charity working in our city. Their witness of faith and service gives me much more than I give them. Blessings to all who celebrate Mother’s feast!

The Church consistently defines the laity not in a negative way (e.g. not ordained, not consecrated) but in a positive way. Lay people should have a sense of being the Church under the aspect of her mission to sanctify the temporal order of human living.

Happy Feast! In his 1950 constitution ‘Munificentissimus Deus,’ Pope Pius XII beautifully explains the meaning of the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
