'Please,' cried Frog, 'please go away!' But no one went away.

'We look brave,' said Frog.

'Yes, but are we?' asked Toad.

Toad stood on his head for a long time. But he could not think of a story to tell Frog.

Frog and Toad went on a long walk.

They swam all afternoon. Frog swam fast and made big splashes. Toad swam slowly and made smaller splashes.

“Now we have no more cookies to eat,” said Toad sadly. “Not even one.”

“Yes,” said Frog, “but we have lots and lots of willpower.”

“You may keep it all, Frog,” said Toad. “I am going home now to bake a cake.”

“Frog, I am glad that you are here,” said Toad.

And all the next day Toad read poems to his seeds.

'What are you laughing at, Frog?' said Toad.

'I am laughing at you, Toad,' said Frog, 'because you DO look funny in your bathing suit.'

'Of course I do,' said Toad. Then he picked up his clothes and went home.

‘I am thinking about tomorrow,’ said Toad. 'I am thinking about all of the many things that I will have to do.'

’Yes,’ said Frog, ‘tomorrow will be a very hard day for you.’

Toad stood on his head for a long time. But he could not think of a story to tell Frog.

'Frog,' said Toad, 'let us eat one very last cookie, and then we will stop.'

They sat there, feeling happy together.

Frog knocked at Toad’s door. “Toad, wake up, he cried. “Come out and see how wonderful the winter is!”

“I will not,” said Toad. “I am in my warm bed.”

Frog and Toad were reading a book together.

“Don’t worry,” said Frog. “We will go back to all the places where we walked. We will soon find your button.”

“All right,” said Toad. “Let me think of a story to tell you.”
