Prioritizing women's safety and well-being involves supporting women and grassroots organizations that are working in local communities to prevent VAW and provide healthcare, food and shelter to victims/survivors of GBV.

Women and girls are always taught to change their behaviour to guarantee their safety. But men and boys must be taught to respect women's bodily autonomy and personal space. If their behaviour is uncomfortable or threatening to women and girls, they must change their behaviour.

We thrive when our homes, schools, houses of worship, streets, markets and communities are safe. We will not stop until we are all safe.

When we support women who speak up, we reduce the social space that exists for sexual violence to occur. We reject the silence that allows sexual violence to proliferate. We say to women and survivors, 'You are not alone. This is not your fault. This is not okay.'

To break the silence surrounding #VAW , there must be support for women's voices. Victims/survivors must feel empowered to reveal narratives of violence and how it manifests.

Patriarchy functions to keep women and girls silent about violence. Violence is not normal and no one should have to endure it. We must challenge and change cultural norms that manipulate women and girls into keeping quiet about abuse.

One of the biggest barriers to ending GBV today is that survivors are often not believed when they speak up.This can create additional stress and abuse for those who take that incredibly brave step and also discourage other people suffering gendered violence from speaking out

Most acts of violence are committed by someone the victim knows well, such as a family member or intimate partner. To create safer societies, we must first make our homes safer for women and girls.
