Much of the energy transition will be funded by borrowing because the infrastructure it creates will be used by future generations. It's cheaper for the government to borrow than corporations or households. And inflation is falling rapidly.

The case for some reframing of the plan is reasonable. Those briefing it should be ditched altogether should be asked what, exactly, their plan is to revive a moribund economy, meet climate goals, and ensure the UK remains competitive.
