The audacity and arbitrariness is striking.

People are free to feel anyway they want about wheelchairs.
For me, however, my wheelchair has been an opportunity, not an obstruction.

A wheelchair is not a barrier.
Stairs are a barrier.
Curbs are a barrier.
Inaccessibility is a barrier.
Stop blaming wheelchairs and wheelchair users.
Blame those who create and perpetuate the barriers.

Don’t call disabled people “special.”
Don’t dismiss disabled peoples’ needs as “special needs.”
Recognize the humanity of disabled people.
They’re not special needs.
It’s access, accommodation, equity and justice.

Diversity + Inclusion does not = Discrimination.

When systems, policies, and practices have been violently and oppressively imbalanced for hundreds of years, there must be strategic efforts to create equity and to honor equality.

Only people threatened by justice oppose it.

Whether it is war, pandemics or disasters, it is ableism to dismiss disabled people as collateral damage.
Disabled people are not expendable, disposable or dispensable.
Our humanity must remain in the forefront.
We can no longer be ignored or diminished.
