My goodness, what a bird the Kilwinning Myrtle Warbler is!
Bullying the Great Tits, singing and showing wonderfully.
Well worth going for 👍

Come to Three UK , 5g superfast broadband, they said.
Admittedly, it mostly doesn't give us too much trouble, but there are so many outages, and this kind of speed doesn't qualify as 'superfast' in any language. DY10.
Complaining is too difficult, so we just put up with it.

Two final birds from southern Turkey: White-spectacled Bulbul (I prefer the old name Yellow-vented) and Laughing Dove provide a permanent soundtrack in towns, reminding you that you are very much not in Europe any more.

A very excitable Kruper's Nuthatch today near Antalya.
Also lucked in on a White-throated Kingfisher on the way back to the hotel for my last night in Turkiye!

Although the Brown Fish Owl failed to show, a freshly-arrived Scops Owl made the night trip into the mountains worthwhile.
Akseki, Turkiye, 30/3/24.

Finches have been gradually increasing over the last week, and now up to 6 Bullfinches visiting the feeder at any one time. I must try harder to photograph those this year, but in the meantime, the Firecrests continue to show well in the garden and the hedge row out the front.

NEW PAPER: Ever wondered why insects fly in all sorts of crazy patterns around lights at night? So did we! We set about recording flying insects to work out what's going on. I'll summarise what we found in this 🧵. Spoiler: We don't think they confuse lights with the moon.

Sorry if I'm making a Meal(y) of this, but the mixed flock of Siskin and Redpoll at my feeders are the best we've had in the 10 years since we moved here.
