Hard to see the case against paying top officials more. We need the best & salaries are now so far off the private sector.

I like the Singaporean model. Pay top officials according to a benchmark against the professions (e.g. lawyer, accountant) they might opt for instead.

This from Martin Sandbu is worth remembering. UK habit of two fiscal events a year, constantly tinkering with the tax system & using surprise tax rabbits to command headlines might seem normal but is not how other countries do things and is bad for the efficiency of the tax system

Great to see this get off the ground. Working in government is a privilege. Plenty of talented people would (and do) jump at the chance to do it for a spell.

Workable secondment schemes help facilitate that & secondees can provide complementary skills & perspectives. A win-win.

This was a great series to work on, and well worth a listen for anyone thinking of a career as a minister or working closely with one.
