Thank you Rep. Katie Porter for standing with us and calling on Stanford Health Care to bargain with its resident physicians and fellows in good faith.

Because no one, neither patient nor provider, should have to compromise their well-being.

While there will continue to be iterations moving forward, there’s now a few years of supportive data for preference signals.

Should there still be a conversation about application caps? IMO absolutely, and the ortho (and gold/silver) data will be fascinating to dive into.

Watching our peers at MGB Housestaff United speak up while we are in the midst of our own contract negotiations at the .

I said this last year and will say again: when this many young doctors are sounding the alarm, we have to listen and act.

How much should we value 'soft' outcomes like subjective experience of residents/fellows? I stumbled across this systematic review from last year again, and instead of rehashing the argument will just quote the old thread with a shoutout to the article:

3 women physicians in NEJM: 'We couldn’t expect to both have a healthy pregnancy and successfully complete residency with our peers.'

Their pregnancies were decades ago, and progress has been made, but this still rings so true.

I need to dive into this further, but raises a good question about what global minimum requirements versus local minimum requirements for residency training should look like. And how do we make sure that programs aspire to more than bare necessities?

I have been MIA from this app for a bit, oops!

But to spread some holiday cheer I got 3️⃣ to give away to any US resident. Will do electronic copies next week for international. Retweet this to enter 😘

Happy whatever you celebrate!!!

Another angle to throw into the conversation around work hours and fatigue. An anonymous survey of residents at a US training site found that over 20% reported using cognitive enhancing supplements (amphetamine or modafinil) bmcmededuc.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

As a relative newbie in , I’m loving this series. My initial takeaway—for how widespread the Cruess model of professional identify formation is, highlighting how learners can (and should) improve the other components of the model is key to advancing the field of medicine
