I know it’s not a representative sample but there were so many Steam Decks around #GDC . As a parent, and someone otherwise tethered to a PC, it is my preferred method to game and I’m glad it’s getting so much love.

#GDC2024 ’s going well! A big highlight was experiencing the voice of Laura Intravia, John Robert Matz’s score to Tchia (Awaceb) - OUT NOW ON STEAM🌴🦜🌸 and Kristin Naigus 🎙🪈 in an amazing concert hosted by Austin Wintory it was also my ideal concert length - 60 minutes!

Flying in for #GDC on Tuesday. My son requests I find projects with dinosaurs in them.

I’ve started thinking of scoring as world building now. Maybe that’s an influence from working in games. The creative decisions I have to make in terms of tone, instrumentation, emotional involvement (or lack of it) fall in place so easily for me in that framework.

I’ve been lucky/cursed in that many of my recent collaborations were pretty light on notes and direction. I take it as a mark of faith that I will write great music, but the downside there is that my inner judges end up being harsher than any director or game dev would be!

Another thought on Ludwig Goransson’s Oscsr slight - it is factually true that if one spends too much time playing games, one may not do other things. Games provide me tremendous joy. But I see many young people clearly addicted to them, at the expense of everything else.

Hot take, I think expressing a dislike of video games is not really all that problematic. Confusing that people have such crazy kinks, I know, but we must learn to be more tolerant.
