I checked out for longer than usual. Spent the weekend camping. I'll start the week off with a new quote from one of my current reads.

Put down another 500 words this morning. This rough draft is...well... terrible. But there is a cool concept buried underneath some of the crap, and some good moments. Just got to keep digging.

Have you seen the 1997 miniseries of The Shining? I liked it. It brings in many of the elements from the book Kubrick removed.

I enjoyed watching General Conference this weekend. Prayer really stood out to me amongst the messages shared. I want to improve my prayers, making them more thoughtful, thorough, and fervent. Anyone else watch General Conference this weekend? What stood out to you?

Authors have to evolve, don't they? Age. Life experiences. Whatever it may be. I was listening to David Morrell talking about his first novel, First Blood. He said there's no way he could write that novel today. Only the twenty-two year old version of himself could do it.

It had been raining hard since five o'clock that morning. Brontean weather, Dr. Barrett thought. He repressed a smile.'

Ah, here's one of my favorite haunted house stories, and definitely my favorite Richard Matheson novel so far. Have you read Hell House?

I once worked at a grocery store with a lady who hated the color pink. She loathed the color so much that whenever pink balloons were in the check stands (we have them out to kids), she would walk through with a pin and pop them all. Never found out her reason for the revulsion.

I'm starting to collect a lot of first lines for stories without the stories to go with them. It's kinda like collecting handles without the cup. Maybe if I pile up enough of them I should start selling them to other writers–$3.00 per line. Lol

30 minutes of writing this morning. Still managed a couple hundred words. Definitely have a novella in the works, though I might be able to push it into novel length.

Disappointing...so many magazines are closing down for good. I was searching for horror magazines for submissions last week on Duotrope and it looked like 70-80% were closed down.

I'm enjoying this reread of Stephen King's IT. Man, King was great with foreshadowing in his stories. Those moments often give me goosebumps.

Writing sure is fun, isn't it? Sure, some days the words are hard to find and it feels like trying to shovel through frozen ground, but then other days it flows right through you. The real world disappears for an hour or two and your story seems like an entity all its own.

So you've worked really hard for several months or maybe even a year. Your novel is finally done! How do you plan to celebrate?

Hardaway would of been one of the top 10 surely if injuries hadn't of plagued his career. He's the reason I became a basketball fan.
