Some incredible sleuthing by our generous affiliates, the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers, has put us in contact with the family of Jimmy Launders, Captain of the submarine who's deeds inspired our name. A fascinating dive into the Ship's heritage Ironmongers' Hall.

Steady progress towards our entry into service is dependent on the efforts of an army of engineers and technicians fabricating the Ship here in Rosyth. Great to read of the pride taken in this work, by Richard, one of the welders on T31👇

Privileged to welcome Venturer's sponsor, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to the Ship for the first time. More detail in the article linked below 👇. A particularly memorable occasion for Leading Hand Adam Duncan who was presented his LSGC medal by HRH.

It was a pleasure to host Second Sea Lord, visiting the Ship's Company (amongst other things) to understand the progress we've been making to define (and refine) how we will operate the platform. And naturally to set foot on our newly installed Bridge.

Heavy Engineering (literally) - 'Drop Stern' is now complete, marking steady progress in the Ship's build. Note the white 'A' brackets which will now be aligned, that will later house the propeller shafts.

The Type 31 frigate shares its DNA with the Danish Iver Heuitfeld class and the future Polish Miecznik frigate. Great to be part of discussions with both nations, collaborating and developing a community around the platform with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa🇵🇱 hosted by Akademia MW

Technology & Innovation are pillars of Type 31 and Venturer. Our Deputy Weapon Engineer Officer, Dan Broome, recently brought this to life visiting Pomphlett Primary School to work with pupils (and budding engineers?!) to code robots using iPads, and to fly drones

The Ship's bow section was recently installed by Babcock International, aligning some complex geometry between units. Note the 'bulbous bow' profile at the waterline, designed to reduce drag and improve efficiency.

The Command System is the 'brain' of the Ship, intelligently linking weapons with sensors. The shipbuilding team visited ours prior to packaging it up for transit, then installation here in Rosyth. The system brings plenty of new capability to the RN.

After announcing our affiliation with the county of Essex, great to hear Cdr Cozens, the Ship's Senior Naval Officer, interviewed by Ben Fryer on BBC Essex this lunchtime. We're looking forward to building links with this incredible part of the UK. Essex County Council

A good article recently published in European Security & Defence discusses the process of delivering new warships for the Royal Navy, including the Type 31 Frigate.

Although you can't put her on weighing scales Babcock International has precisely weighed the Ship. Heavy engineering; lifting HMS Venturer on 84 hydraulic jacks 3 times to validate the calulations are spot on. 👇

On this day in 1945, HMS Venturer became the only submarine in history to sink another (U-864) whilst both were submerged. Our name represents the theme of technology and innovation, inspired by the actions of Venturer and her Commanding Officer Jimmy Launders

It was a pleasure to be hosted by URNU East Scotland, where a couple of members of the ship's company hoped to inspire the next generation of sailors. There were some great questions, and plenty of interest in the variety of career paths available in the ⚓️
