So yesterday I managed to get a field of spring wheat planted! Still a bit too sticky, but🤞it will be ok. Back to the norm with constant rain all day today 😩.

Very frustrating day yesterday. Tried sowing our spring wheat with the Vaderstad seed drill, but it was still way too wet. 🤞the weather keeps dry and we can try again soon. .

ICYMI 📻| NFU @cropsboard member Richard Heady (@HeadysFarm) was interviewed by John Pienaar on Times Radio yesterday evening discussing the impact the extreme wet weather has had on his own farm's spring planting.

Spraying off a failed winter wheat crop today in the hope of replanting it with spring wheat soon. The wet autumn/winter drowned this crop leaving most of the field bare. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we have the dry weather to replant it soon 🙏. ing

It’s Easter Sunday, but it’s also our last opportunity to apply this uninhibited urea fertiliser. Tomorrow new rules come in to place only allowing us to apply urea fertiliser that has a chemical inhibitor (after the end of March).

Sobering to see pictures of the 5.5k wellies outside Welsh parliament represent the 5500 farm jobs that would be lost if their government implement the sustainability strategy. This is a plea to work with Welsh farmers, and not against them to achieve sustainability goals.

Good bye to an extremely wet February, welcome to…..March 🌧️❄️!
Let’s hope the old adage ‘March in like a lion out like a lamb’ is accurate!

With poor commodity prices and very few crops drilled this year I am looking at an alternative career😉.
Nah, I was on a Dawn Meats Cardington supply chain visit to see how our beef goes from meadow pasture to the Golden Arches!

I tried to distill why farmers are so angry into a single tweet. Summery as follows - We’ve had enough of working for nothing, to produce something everyone needs, while being told we’re doing a shit job of it, by people who’ve never done it.
I think that covers it?

A day out running the 42mile Greensand Ridge across Bedfordshire today. Aching from head to toe, but pleased to have knocked 30mins off our last time. We had fantastic weather but it was more than a little muddy.

I took 30mins this morning to do the big farmland bird count. I tried to use the Merlin app to help me identify the birds by sound, but the skylarks in the field were singing so loudly it struggled to hear the other birds 😄.

It hadn’t rained here for just over a week, but with high humidity the fields were still pretty sticky. In desperation to get some more winter wheat planted I got drilling and managed to get one field sown, spending most of my time unblocking the drill. Its now raining😒
