16 APRIL 1947 – MEDICAL SPECIALIST CORPS BIRTHDAY

The Army Medical Specialist Corps is one of six Army medical corps which serve under the Army Surgeon General. The Corps is composed of occupational therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and physician assistants.

#OTD in 1887 Florence Farmborough was born. Named after Nightingale, she worked as a Red Cross nurse in the Imperial Russian Army, and was awarded honorary life membership of the RC in 1974. She was a keen photographer and became a War Correspondent for the BBC. #HistNursing

#OnThisDay 1915 Sister Alicia Kelly, from Mayo, enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service. She served in Egypt & France & was awarded a Military Medal for bravery under fire-during an air raid on the hospital, she wouldn't leave her patients' side.
