U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Thomas L. Solhjem, Chief of Chaplains of the United States Army, visited the Inter-American Defense College Campus on Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. He met with IADC Leadership, spoke with students, received an IADC brief, and toured the campus.

The IADC welcomed Lt. Gen. Marc H. Sasseville, Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau, and other guests for a speaking engagement During the event, Lt. Gen. Sasseville spoke to Class 62 students about the National Guard, including its functions, structure, and mission.

Tuesday, members of IADC Class 62 had the opportunity to engage with the Office of National Drug Control Policy about the United States’ efforts to save lives by addressing the supply and demand sides of drug policy.

The Inter-American Defense College Concluded its Annual World Situation Conference, the event is a 3-day series of lectures covering regions and special aspects of the globe. The IADC organized the event as part of the WSC, one of the short courses of its curricula.

During their first working day in Colorado, students, faculty, and staff of the IADC visited USNORTHCOM, together with the Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and the USSPACECOM. In those commands, they received institutional presentations on their missions, functions, and tasks.

IADC staff, faculty and students participated in a farewell ceremony for outgoing Vice-Director, Brig. do Ar Leonardo Chavez Rodrigues and additionally, we welcomed our new vice-director Brazilian General de Brigada Carlos Eduardo Costa to the College.

El general James Taylor, director del Colegio Interamericano de Defensa, realizó una visita protocolar a la Academia Diplomática del Ecuador Galo Plaza Lasso Galo Plaza Lasso. Fue recibido por su director embajador Alejandro Suárez, con quien dialogó sobre cooperación académica.

Yesterday as part of this year’s OCONUS Field the IADC visited the town of Portobelo. The students learned about the colonial, military, and cultural history of a region that figured prominently in the Spanish colonial era establishing Panama’s role as an economic hub.

Yesterday, Inter-American Defense College Leadership and Students received Admiral Karl Schultz, Commandant of the USCG to the IADC campus. During the visit Admiral Schultz spoke with class 61 students, participated in an office call with leadership and toured the campus.

Sixty years ago today, on the 11th of April, 1962, the Permanent Council of the OAS met in the Hall of the Americas and passed the resolution that created the Inter-American Defense College.

May our next 60 years be ones of collaboration, peace, and prosperity!

Last Tuesday, we celebrated the honoring of Dr. Roberto Pereyra Bordon as the first Distinguished Professor at the IADC. Dr. Pereyra received a special Ph.D. robe with two insignias of the IADC and also received the Distinguished Professor Medallion.
