At #NPT2023 #NPTPrepCom , States Parties should categorically reject #nuclear threats and uphold the nuclear taboo - Austria

Several states at the #NPTPrepCom so far have expressed hope that work on strengthening the review process, particularly on transparency & accountability, will continue despite the Working Group's inability to adopt recommendations.

Noting that the NPT is facing a crisis of legitimacy, Singapore tells #NPT2023 that continued lack of progress on nuclear disarmament has made it seem that nuclear-armed states aren’t willing to disarm. It urged them to implement Article VI and the 2010 Action Plan.

The shared experiences of Dmitriy Vesselov a third generation survivor of nuclear tests in Kazakhstan at a side event of the #NPT PrepCom organised by Soka Gakkai USA Kazakh Embassy/Permanent Mission in Vienna and Center for International Security and Policy are a powerful testimony of the shortcomings of the #NPT .

Costa Rica tells #NPT2023 it rejects nuclear weapon modernisation, which is not consistent with legal obligations for disarmament. Any threat to use this weapons also goes against international law.
