A few words every athlete could benefit from, as well…

Blocking metrics worth moving toward…
1. Block probability that factors in pitch characteristics AND catcher positioning (similar to range based INF stats)
2. Block value that factors in leverage of situation (score, inning, runners)
3. Pair w/ similar parameters for receiving

1. Drilling choreographed/ predetermined moves is better served for dance recitals than athletic endeavors

2. No stat speaks to everything. Your use of any stat is only as good as how well you recognize and clarify what it omits prior to what it focuses on

Many parallels b/w batspeed & INF/C arm strength. Unlike pitching, time is of the essence & faster doesn’t always = quicker. Id guess the hardest throws an INF/C makes are still only 80-90% of their true max given those time constraints. But you train the max to raise that 80-90%

Really like this. PD is so often a balance of attacking a scoreboard while also providing the player w/ the freedom to explore his best way of doing so. Some players like a balance of both, but many others like to lean heavily into one end of that spectrum. Good stuff Kyle Wagner

The combination of these bats and the “get on top, hard groundball/line drive” approach still haunts the late 90’s infielder

My personal rundown thoughts…

1. No throws > 1 throw. Always try to tag the runner yourself

2. If his shoulders are parallel to the baseline you can/ should be able to outrun him

3. Throw when his shoulders commit to a base. Go hard and make him commit

4. Pump fakes are fine

This was once the case. Used to really look forward to #maskupmondays , #fridayfielders , and #sundayswings . Felt like a regular, free, high end coaching clinic almost every week. Good times
