If social media is the new town square, should only those with job security be allowed to voice their opinions and influence society's decisions?

Quite obviously, this would exclude a whole bunch of people in academia, given their often precarious employment status.

Well, I have autism, and for someone like me, understanding what might get me into trouble is challenging. Are my only options either
'never post anything online using your real name'
or
'never share any opinion that isn't supported by the majority of the U.S. media'?'

Academia is scary.

I am terrified that I will say something 'wrong' without noticing it and end up being canceled. And 'wrong' is not defined clearly, if at all.

Would this happen if the same tweet was supporting the opposite opinion?
