Arden Road, Acocks Green. Once known as Back Lane and Quality Lane, it features this mighty Oak tree which was left in the middle of the road when the houses were built in the Edwardian era. Whether it was once part of the Forest of Arden is up for debate. tinyurl.com/hcc58fes

I have a copy a comparable map showing the Morris Commercial premises in Adderley Park. My father-in-law's office was marked with a cross but I don't think that it was anything personal between him and the Third Reich. He subsequently reciprocated by joining Bomber Command.

The Charter of Incorporation gave Birmingham the right, for the first time, to elect a municipal council. The ambition behind campaigns for that charter should not be underestimated. And perhaps now is a good time to reflect on that.

On Nov 10 1838, William Redfern held up the Charter of Incorporation in Bham Town Hall and spoke of how it had been hard won, but fairly won. This was a gift that he hoped would long be treasured 'for the sake of the invaluable rights and privileges it conferred upon them'.
