My email inbox is flooded with announcements of dozens of The Washington Post staffers leaving this month after a buyout. The passionate, diverse and exquisite work of these people could fill many many volumes. What a legacy. What a shame.

In private encounters, Netanyahu urged Biden, Sunak and Macron to pressure Egyptian President Sisi to take hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza into the Sinai. They each refused the request, noting Sisi doesn't want to be complicit in the mass displacement of Gazans🧵

Asked about disconnect b/w the economy & sentiment, White House NEC Director Lael Brainard emphasizes that costs are still far too high for American families -- particularly for health care, prescription drugs, & junk fees -- & cites the admin's efforts to bring relief

It has always been clear to me that whatever compositional effects were messing with the 2020 data it certainly seems impossible to dispute that inflation-adjusted wages fell in 2022. But still useful to have proof to vindicate that view here

This from Stephen Semler is a good program-by-program rundown of the point about how, outside of the labor market, things have worsened. You can shift this debate into a meta-debate about Biden's culpability or consumer surveys, but on the merits, it's very real.

The Black/white wage differential stopped falling by 1980. Since then, it rose from ~20% to ~24% in 2018. Then it fell, and stands under 16% today, an all time low.

The tight labor market has led to a historic reduction in racial wage disparities.
