I don't understand how anyone involved in TV production could watch this and not immediately shout 'Cast that man as an alien! Or, if there's already a show with an alien, pay off whoever plays the alien and make him be the alien!'

This is depressingly true but also entirely avoidable. Instead of this generation of zombie AI being introduced everywhere & everyone losing their jobs, can we just skip to the part where everything had to be rebuilt & people got jobs again?

An AI wrote this.

Not just the Daily Mail column, I mean, but the fictional universe in which you and I and our sense-impressions of the Daily Mail column exist. That's why lived experience is a bit rubbish.

Guardian casually popping the phrase 'voter-friendly tax giveaway' into a headline, there.

'Voters want tax cuts' is one of those stupid, naïve generalisations that seems to persist because it's a little bit shrewder than the stupidest, most naïve generalisation imaginable.

'Ah, see, I wasn't talking about the actual electorate. I was talking about the ill-informed caricature I and the rest of the London-based media are obsessed with. You have to admit, that caricature is an accurate representation of itself'

I said 'In winter 1963
It felt like the world would freeze
With John F Kennedy
...And that's how I remember it was 1962–3 and not 1963–4, you see. 'Cos that's when he was still alive. This may well be the only genuinely useful mnemonic that also has artistic merit.'

This stuff honestly merits an apology. It’s such a crude view of the north, and an insulting one. Critically, it doesn’t hold up either in polling or focus groups.

Red wall voters look a lot like voters everywhere else.

It's not a real place, to these people.

Once you take on board that basic rejection of responsibility and respect, nearly every incredible action and decision in this whole saga flows as a matter of course.

(Real places are places where people like us live, presumably.)
