On the way to the #MOSBRI conference to present the results of our two CW- #EPR MOSBRI grants on HydABC (with James Birrell) and some complementary work from the MPI-CEC Hyped for getting some Spanish back, learning about new techniques and Spanish tapas with giulia.pesce
It was a little bit surreal to give a talk in the same award session as my science heroes. It wouldn't have been possible without my amazing collaborators over the years (Lauterbach lab, David Schilter, James Birrell, and many others)!
Great atmosphere and exciting discussions at the home game, #EBEC2022 in presenting our first spectroscopic results of the [FeFe]-Hydrogenase (HydABC) in T.maritima after the great structural work of James Birrell Jamie Blaza Hyped to see where it goes!
Really enjoyed the visit to IIT Bombay & an engaging discussion with the students about research & career in academia. Huge thanks to Arnab Dutta for the invite & being a generous host!

Absolutely delighted to announce that the 14th International Conference on Hydrogenases and other Redox Metalloenzymes will take place in the UK! Welcome home, sweet home 👏🏻☺️ Stay tuned for more info! Philip A. Ash James Birrell Simone Morra Vincent Group Oxford AlisonParkin SteveCarr
Our work on FeFe #hydrogenase is out in J. Am. Chem. Soc. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ja… Great collaboration with Berggren@UU Uppsala University & James Birrell University of Essex, with Andrea Fasano in the driver's seat CNRS Chimie Aix-Marseille Université
Want more? It is illustrated by Laurent Eisler, again!
One year of #HydrogenaseLectures is coming to a close 😢
To celebrate, we organized an online Christmas symposium that will take place Dec 15 🎄🎄🎄
Attendance is FREE, DMs are OPEN, please SHARE 🙏🏻

Toasting to Blaise on his success in securing a Marie-Curie Fellowship! Stay tuned to what he'll be up to working on a very cool FeS enzyme in collaboration with James Birrell and doing lots of #EPR at our Centre for Pulse EPR Spectroscopy (PEPR)!
Cool new work on the stability of the #Hydrogenase H cluster under whole-cell conditions from @berggrenlab, Patricia Rodriguez Macia, James Birrell. #EPR freaks will love this paper, check out their beautiful spectra!
In the JACS ASAPs: James Birrell, Wolfgang Lubitz and Serena DeBeer (MPI-CEC) with partners from TU Berlin, UC Davis, UIUC and SPring-8, provide clear evidence against bridging hydrides in [FeFe] hydrogenase. acspubs.co/rAiK30q5SaB
Take 2: Join us on Thursday for a hybrid Seminar at 13:30 GMT University of Essex School of Life Sciences, University of Essex
(note unusual time/room!)
Dr James Birrell will talk about FeFe dehydrogenases & proton oxidation-based metabolism.
