Four years ago, the nation was locked down, toilet paper disappeared from shelves, stocks had plunged, and millions of service workers had lost their jobs. So why does it feel like it was a happy time that Biden ruined for everyone?

Come on, WaPo.

Barr is not a 'vocal Trump critic.'

1) He did invaluable work *for Trump* in falsely de-fanging 'Mueller report.' Even Mueller (later) complained.

2) Like Bolton, Lehman, Portman, McConnell he is 'critical' but finally obeisant.

AI is really, really uneven.

Manifestly Gemini (from Google) must have been programmed to punt on any question involving US public life.

This is in contrast to a long, impressive, surprising analysis it gave me on the novels of Willa Cather.

The New York Times presents this in cynical political terms, as if no one in a position of power could possibly give a damn about the environment and decide to do the right thing.
It’s this kind of spin that makes the Times toxic to good government.

This trial is not just about 'hush money' and every report should make that clear very high up. presswatchers.org/2024/04/every-…

For sure the headline writers are just trolling us now.

The story is mostly about Columbia univ (and other places). But who cares?

There is nothing I love more than pieces by writers living in Brooklyn, on the overlooked feelings of the real America.

(Fortunately a broad-enough brush that no one in specific can be offended. And yes: You can do extensive reporting wherever you're based. Eg Walt Whitman!)

Remind me: what's the public benefit of articles w/ vague-but-suggestive personal info about people on Trump's NYC jury?

washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/…

Yes, anyone sitting in the courtroom would have heard that info—including Trump + team. But not everyone was in that room.

Would change Fernand's first line only to say: 'One of the great Americans in American history...'

Bob Graham was an outstanding person, patriot, citizen, leader.

May his example be an inspiration.

This Slate piece by Alicia Montgomery rings far truer to me than the original 'J'accuse' broadside.

We had several successive front-page NYT stories about Biden being an 'elderly man with a poor memory,' and why this was a crisis for the Dems.

So we'll have two or three front-pagers on this theme.

Right?

James Fallows I really wish my dad had shaved G.H.W Bush’s head in one of the debates. Would def have changed the trajectory of the campaign.

Name your decade in American history, and you will find accounts of scammers, financial bubbles, credulous cults, gullible heartland 'investors.'

Try 'The Gilded Age' by Mark Twain and CD Warner if you need a reminder.

Presidential 'debates' have become purely performative —counterparts to Survivor or Bachelor or, in Trump's case, his shaving Vince McMahon's head on WrestleMania. This is 1000x true for any 'debate' involving Trump.

Not the place for unified media 'stand.'

growing tendency among journalists just to regurgitate things people tell pollsters whether or not they're true

polls show people think the economy's bad, so its bad (though it isn't)

polls show people think Biden's too old to be president, so he's too old (though we see him…
