The El Enemigo Chenin Mendoza 2022 is a transparent, hyper-mineral chenin blanc with laser beams of acidity from Bodega Aleanna’s El Enemigo wines. Their quality outweighs the reasonable price tag, be it chardonnay, cabernet franc, or this chenin hailing from 50-year-old vines.

Senior Editor Stuart Pigott visited Vincent Paris estate in Cornas and tasted wines from the 2022 vintage. The hot and dry 2022 brought more plushness to the wines. The most intense cuvée of his range, La Geynale, shone greatly thanks to the extra heat and stress.

Guillaume Sorrel makes refined Hermitage & Crozes-Hermitage wines. Located in Tain-l'Hermitage, he focuses on 4 hectares he farms with his family. His wines show refinement & restrained power. His Crozes-Hermitage from the northern parcels of the appellation show plenty of class.

Top Pessac-Léognan such as Haut Brion, La Mission, Haut Bailly, and Smith Haut-Lafitte made some serious wines in 2023, each very different. For example, the SHL was one of the most structured in years with well-toned tannins running the length of the wine.
