It’s been a busy and very enjoyable week looking at plants. It might have felt like winter but spring is hurtling onwards regardless.

Pics from 2 day visit with RHS Herbaceous-plant committee to RHS Garden Wisley then Hortus Loci and a beautiful private garden in Hampshire. We saw new Piet Oudolf border, learned about current RHS P&D, taxonomy and environment work and saw many interesting plants RHS Herbaceous Plant Committee

Hosta ‘Avocado’ in its green phase. Leaves develop a variegated pattern later on. One of the bigger, tougher hostas that don’t get eaten as quickly as more delicate ones, though it’s next to a hedge full of snails so there will be holes.

Parterres - should they be filled with plants? Or are the hedging/topiary shapes and layout enough of a feature in themselves? I’m never sure about alll that empty soil myself, though I suspect there were originally more tulips in this one and they’ve been eaten.

A bit of local colour on the outskirts of Barnet - yellow as far as the eye can see. At least some crops are growing.

We watched this Nomada bee (a male Nomada flava?)yesterday climbing a stalk and ending up like this! Apparently this is how Nomadas sleep! He’s holding on with just his jaws! I find that absolutely amazing - never seen anything like it before 😳

Listen up rose pals. Might any of you have the ‘Nottingham Forest Rose’ growing in your garden? If so, Alison would love to hear from you! 🌹😊
