After 11 years as Director of Athletics at American University, Dr. Billy Walker presided over his final year-end awards ceremony tonight as he gets set to retire in June.

With a reception and community event on April 15, JM Caparro was welcomed as the new Director of Athletics & Recreation at American University.

Caparro was joined by his wife and four children as he made his first public remarks before taking on the role.

Congratulations to Coach Smith on an incredible career! Although I didn’t wrestle for him, I could share many amazing stories from encounters with him through the years. Most notably, his phone call when Stanford announced they planned to cut wrestling. A LEGEND in my book!
