This is how my schools are tracking student math data (from interviews - Lawson addition continuum). Its very easy to see which strategies are being used, how to group students for small group instruction & who might need intervention. TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy Mervi Salo

I read this article and I am wonder what kind of background research Jamie Sarkonak did before pressing submit.
Given her last article on Education I suspect the answer is “not much”
Anyway, some observations and comments in the thread.

Day 2 of Unlocking Fractions Understanding PD: As teachers, we constantly learn and must be ready to unlearn. But then, how rewarding when your Gr. 3 student works on fractions, stops and says: 'This is so hard, but it's sooo fun!' TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy Jason To | 杜澤信 Mervi Salo Lisa Dilworth

Westview Centennial SS gr 9 students working on simplifying exponents through a thin slice activity. Ss got through so many questions while being engaged and communicating their thinking with one another. Lots of knowledge mobility. TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy Jason To | 杜澤信 Mervi Salo

Could this finding have implications for instruction? I personally have had success with starting lessons with easy questions (what we could call anticipatory set) and progressing to harder questions. The students stop attending the second the questions are beyond their PK!
