Those who argue that HE’s funding problems are unfixable really should read the Jo Johnson piece here. The core problem is that unis are losing money on teaching home UGs, and that’s absolutely fixable and really not complicated. But a couple of further thoughts… 1/3ish

University funding is not working. Over the past decade, funding for students has plummeted and will hit a 25-year low by 2026.

HEPI has brought together voices from across HE to explore potential options. Read my full chapter on the stepped repayment model below

Another brilliant publication by the HEPI team! We at LE Education were delighted to get to analyse the cost implications of this wide range of thought-provoking policy proposals for HE funding in England and Scotland.

Multi-pronged pressure today for a more arts-friendly curriculum: from Labour, a cross-party Lords committee and NAHT.

Government's response to Lords Education for 11-16 Year Olds Committee concerns is 'a missed opportunity to millions of young people' says Jo Johnson

This is racism and sexism 1.0 - he doesn't like Diane and based on that he is inclined to dislike other black women

Thoughts with Diane Abbott MP, who has had an entire lifetime of putting up with this shit

To my recollection, these Frank Hester comments are the most overtly racist [published] remarks by any figure linked to one of the major political parties in this (21st) century.

To say they are not racist much more of an insult than an apology + a big problem of party culture

She makes you want to hate all black people but it’s not about race? I think this makes you look worse than apologising for making racist comments tbh.

Good to see this picked up in Schools Week - having Russell Group as a destination measure doesn’t measure anything valuable given that it’s a self-selecting Mission Group not a quality kitemark. It also promotes clustering of applications to RG unis leaving too many students…

Please read Jo Johnson's piece The Times and The Sunday Times today re Lords Select Committee report on 11-16 education. Chaired by Lord J the report says case for change is overwhelming. J notes how music etc have been sidelined from schools by the EBacc and that Govt has refused to act. Shocking.
