Someone from Piers Morgan's staff asked if I would like to come onto Pier's show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, to talk about the state of his attire. Since he invited feedback, I thought I'd do a thread comparing his style to menswear icon Kermit the Frog. ๐Ÿงต

With every one of these dogs we had to work on their individual issues one at a time with patience and a gentle heart. With dogs that are already abused / neglected / desocialized, playing dominance games is a BAD idea. 6/n

Meet Thor. Surrendered at 1 YO b/c owner kept him in a crate all day.

Initial behavioral issues: small dog aggression, fear of loud / chaotic situations / fireworks / firearms. Children made him nervous. Abandonment

Upside: best running buddy ever. And yes, he's judging you 3/n

I donโ€™t want to be the Womenswear Gal. I want to talk about how by the late 19th century, 5 million birds representing 50 species had been killed to put on ladiesโ€™ hats and muffs and thatโ€™s why doing anything with a native bird species in the US is illegal.

For most of human history the fundamental approach to design was that everything โ€” literally everything โ€” could be aesthetically pleasing in some way.

Hence Medieval gargoyles โ€” which were just waterspouts! โ€” became miniature works of art, whether funny or fantastical:

And so, all over the world, from region to region, different styles of architecture emerged as a result of the need to address the local climate, as restricted by available materials and local cultural practices.

This is where traditional architecture came from.

The porticos and colonnades of Ancient Greece and Rome provided shade during the day.

And Indian jalis โ€” intricately carved windows made from wood or stone โ€” compressed the air which passed through them and, thanks to the Venturi effect, cooled it down.

How did we deal with the demands of hot and humid climates?

Big windows, high ceilings, balconies, open spaces, and rooms below ground level.

Think of traditional Moroccan houses with their large central courtyards, or the subterranean, shaded stepwells of India.

Think of Scandinavian churches or German houses with steep roofs โ€” to prevent snow building up.

Or the crofters' cottages of Scotland with thick walls and small windows โ€” staying warm and dry in a region that is wet and cold.

It looks charming, but this was functional design.

In 1901 a New York publishing company had a problem: inconsistent humidity in their factory made it difficult to print in colour.

An engineer called Willis Carrier solved this problem for them by inventing a machine which regulated both humidity and temperature.

It sounds like a boring topic, but air conditioning is more important than you realise.

First: there are 2 billion air con units in the world and they account for 10% of all electricity we use.

Second: it has revolutionised architecture and totally reshaped global politics...

I want to take a moment to give master roaster & truth teller Michelle Wolf a shout-out. In 2018 She used her night at the White House correspondents' dinner to speak truth & shame some powerful people & they deserved it. She said what we wanted to, but didn't have the reach.

Well, everyone voted for a thread on a mineral, and I just looked up something so you're getting the backlash.

This case? Translucent jade. Apparently it's just nephrite (calcite, magnesium, and some other stuff) that lacks colorants.

I think it's magical.

Thought you'd like these chrysanthemums made with Mississippi River pearls:

- a devant de corsage (stomacher) by Henri Verver, 1905: pearls, diamonds, enamel & gold

- brooch by G. Paulding Farnham for Tiffany, gifted to opera star Lillian Russell in 1904

Get in losers, we're gonna bust some corset myths. A๐Ÿงต

Myth 1: not necessarily in so many words but visual! In the gif below we see a woman self-cinching a corset with, apparently, no chemise underneath (to protect the corset from sweat and to protect the skin from chafing)...

Georgia's new legislation poses severe risks to unhoused voters, restricting their access to vote by complicating how they receive election mail. We must protect the voting rights of all Georgians, regardless of their living situation.
