Brooding this week is about C O N T R O L and how our obsession with it flavors everything. It's the spirit of our age! It's Huberman! It's Dr Becky! It's my neighbors along the Canada/US border and their gd 'wildlife' cameras! Subscribers got it today, read it on The Cut demain

Profound piece in New York Times Opinion by Lindsay Ryan, MD, MFA on the epidemic of 'end-stage poverty.'

i also notice that people call things 'exhausting' when they lack the capacity to summon other ideas. like they are literally exhausted by the effort of thinking about something challenging and interesting

so odd, the commenters remarking that danny and family's lifestyle sounds 'exhausting'. meanwhile hetero mothers have elevated complaining about hetero fathers to a standalone genre. I mean please. Is exhaustion simply the only mode you know how to communicate in?

successful essays don't invite reflection. they incite readers to weigh in about how they know better and are cooler than the writer. i hope we never see the day that this formula for success runs its course because it's very fun to hear about how cool everyone is
